Telangana reservoirs fall below normal levels as storage dips

Water storage levels across Telangana have slipped below normal benchmarks, with the state's eight major reservoirs collectively underperforming, Central Water Commission data has revealed. The decline comes at a critical time for agricultural and domestic water requirements across the state.

Among the monitored reservoirs, Lower Manair is performing relatively better, holding 70.01 per cent of its live capacity. Nizam Sagar follows at 57.91 per cent, while the Musi Project maintains 57.72 per cent. Kaddam reservoir recorded 54.15 per cent capacity, while Jurala stood at 50 per cent and Sriram Sagar registered 44.65 per cent.

Nagarjunasagar and Singur have emerged as the most concerning cases, dropping to their lowest recorded levels. The deteriorating storage position across multiple reservoirs highlights the strain on Telangana's water resources and underscores the need for judicious management of available supplies.

The data underscores the state's vulnerability to fluctuating rainfall patterns and emphasizes the importance of conservation measures and efficient water distribution systems to meet the demands of agriculture, industry, and urban consumption.
