Telangana, SCR to develop expansion plans for Hyderabad MMTS network

Telangana authorities have initiated plans to expand the Hyderabad Metro Train Service (MMTS) and develop additional rail infrastructure across the metropolitan area. The state government and South Central Railway (SCR) are jointly preparing detailed project reports (DPRs) to guide future expansion of the mass rapid transit system serving the city.

The DPRs will assess technical feasibility, financial viability, and implementation timelines for extending the existing MMTS network to underserved areas of Hyderabad. The joint initiative reflects growing recognition that the current metro infrastructure requires expansion to accommodate the city's increasing commuter demands and urban growth.

Beyond MMTS expansion, the DPRs will also examine the development of new rail corridors around Hyderabad to improve regional connectivity. These projects are expected to form the foundation for medium to long-term transportation planning in the rapidly developing city.

The preparation of comprehensive project reports is a standard prerequisite for major infrastructure investments in India. Once completed, the DPRs will be presented to relevant authorities for approval and funding consideration, determining the pace and scope of Hyderabad's rail expansion over coming years.
