Telangana temple decorates Ganesha idols with currency notes worth ₹2.9 crore

While Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations typically feature idols embellished with flowers, garlands, precious metals and colourful lights, a temple in Palavancha, Telangana, has chosen an unusually elaborate decorative approach this year. Two Ganesha statues have been adorned entirely with currency notes worth 2.9 crore rupees, creating a striking visual display that has captured public attention.

The ornamental arrangement has drawn significant footfall to the pandal, with devotees travelling to witness the distinctive decoration scheme. The choice to use banknotes as ornamentation represents a departure from traditional embellishment methods commonly seen across Hindu temple festivities in the region.

The unusual presentation has generated considerable interest among worshippers observing the four-day Ganesha Chaturthi festival, which celebrates the elephant-headed deity believed to symbolise prosperity and new beginnings. Temple officials have not disclosed details regarding the source of the currency notes or specific rationale behind the unconventional decoration choice.
