Telangana to build modern paddy storage infrastructure to aid farmers

Telangana's government is moving to construct modern storage infrastructure for paddy to shield farmers from unfavorable market conditions and forced sales at depressed prices. Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy outlined the plan, which would provide ryots with secure facilities to store their harvest.

The storage infrastructure is designed to address a persistent challenge faced by farmers across the state, who often resort to distress sales immediately after harvest when prices are at their lowest. By providing adequate storage capacity, the initiative aims to give cultivators the flexibility to time their sales strategically and secure better returns.

The modernized facilities would incorporate contemporary technology and best practices for grain preservation, ensuring minimal losses due to spoilage or pest damage. This approach aligns with efforts across India's agricultural sector to reduce post-harvest losses and improve farmer incomes.

The state government has identified storage infrastructure development as a key component of its broader agricultural support framework. Officials believe the initiative will strengthen the state's agricultural economy while reducing the dependency of farmers on immediate sales to middlemen and traders.
