Telangana to develop floating restaurants, houseboats across six waterbodies

The Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TGTDC) has initiated a move to transform six of the state's waterbodies into leisure and dining destinations by inviting private agencies to develop and operate floating restaurants, dine-in cruise boats, and houseboats.

The initiative seeks to leverage Telangana's water resources for experiential tourism, offering visitors unique dining and stay options on the state's lakes and reservoirs. The TGTDC's tender process aims to identify experienced operators capable of delivering quality hospitality services while maintaining environmental standards on these waterbodies.

The project represents part of a broader strategy to diversify Telangana's tourism offerings beyond traditional attractions. Water-based tourism has emerged as a significant revenue generator in several Indian states, attracting both domestic and international visitors seeking novel recreational experiences.

The selected private agencies will be responsible for developing the necessary infrastructure, managing daily operations, and ensuring compliance with local regulations and safety standards. The arrangement seeks to balance commercial interests with environmental conservation and public access considerations.

Telangana's waterbodies, which include several major lakes and reservoirs, present untapped potential for tourism development. The initiative is expected to generate employment opportunities in the hospitality sector while contributing to the state's tourism revenue.
