Telangana to transform 13 bus stations into multi-purpose transit hubs

Telangana is set to modernise 13 bus stations by converting them into comprehensive transit hubs that will combine public transportation with commercial and entertainment services. The initiative represents a significant shift in how the state manages its transport infrastructure, moving beyond traditional bus terminal operations.

The integrated hubs will feature shopping outlets, gaming facilities, and entertainment spaces alongside their core transportation functions. This mixed-use approach is intended to improve the overall passenger experience and make transit stations more economically viable destinations in their own right.

The redevelopment addresses longstanding challenges at conventional bus stations, which typically suffer from congestion, poor facilities, and limited amenities. By introducing retail and entertainment components, the stations are expected to attract non-commuting visitors, extending their commercial value beyond peak travel hours.

The project also seeks to generate additional revenue for state transport authorities through rental income from retail tenants and entertainment operators. Officials believe the upgraded facilities will set new standards for regional transport infrastructure while easing pressure on existing public transportation systems across the state.

The 13 stations selected for transformation are strategically located to serve major commuter corridors and city hubs, with implementation expected to proceed in phases.
