Telangana's Power Minister has clarified that the state government has no plans to privatise its power utilities, while highlighting challenges faced by the Yadadri Thermal Power Station since its establishment.

Telangana Power Minister Uttar Pradesh Priya Reddy has reiterated the government's commitment to maintaining public ownership of the state's power distribution utilities, dismissing speculation about potential privatisation moves.
During a recent statement, the minister noted that the Yadadri Thermal Power Station (YTPS) was established without a guaranteed coal allotment from the outset, creating operational challenges for the facility. She pointed out that the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government frequently altered coal sourcing arrangements, contributing to instability in power generation.
The minister's clarification comes amid ongoing discussions about the financial health of Telangana's power sector. The state has been grappling with power supply issues and revenue pressures in recent years, prompting questions about potential structural reforms.
The Yadadri project, located in Khammam district, was envisioned as a key infrastructure investment to boost the state's power generation capacity. However, inconsistent coal supply arrangements and policy shifts have affected its operational efficiency since commissioning.
