Temasek Polytechnic launches DRIVE Lab with F1 simulator for data science students

The newly established DRIVE Lab at Temasek Polytechnic provides students with a high-fidelity simulation environment designed to bridge theoretical computer science and practical data analysis. The life-sized racing cockpit harnesses Formula 1 simulation technology to capture authentic performance metrics and operational data during student-led experiments.

Students from the School of Informatics & IT can now leverage the simulator to collect datasets under controlled conditions, addressing a critical gap in experiential learning. Rather than relying solely on pre-existing datasets, learners generate their own data through interactive simulation, enabling deeper understanding of data collection methodologies and real-world variables affecting performance measurement.

The facility supports curriculum objectives across multiple disciplines, including data science, analytics, and systems engineering. By engaging with motorsport simulation technology, students gain exposure to industry-standard tools and practices used in professional racing operations and high-performance engineering environments.

Institution leaders view the DRIVE Lab as part of a broader initiative to enhance hands-on technical education at the polytechnic. The investment reflects growing demand for professionals capable of managing complex datasets and extracting actionable insights from simulation-derived information across sectors including motorsports, automotive engineering, and industrial optimisation.
