Ten Calabarzon bus drivers fail drug tests ahead of Undas travel surge

LUCENA CITY — Authorities have identified ten public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers in the Calabarzon region who tested positive for illegal drugs following surprise drug screening operations at major public transport terminals, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region IV-A reported Wednesday.

The unannounced tests were part of heightened safety measures implemented ahead of the Undas holiday travel rush, when millions of Filipinos typically travel to visit family graves and relatives. The LTO conducted the screening to ensure driver fitness and road safety during the peak travel period.

The positive test results highlight ongoing concerns about driver impairment and public transportation safety in the region. Authorities did not immediately disclose the identity of the drivers or specific details regarding follow-up enforcement actions.

The Calabarzon region, which comprises Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon provinces, serves as a major transportation hub for travelers heading to provincial destinations during the holiday season. The LTO has emphasized that maintaining strict safety standards among PUV operators is critical for protecting commuters and ensuring orderly holiday travel.
