KORONADAL CITY, SOUTH COTABATO — All 10 members of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) council in Malungon, Sarangani province, have submitted their resignations in response to the postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).
The youth council members said the extended delay in holding the elections would require them to remain in office for an additional two years beyond their originally planned term. The group cited conflicts with their personal commitments and career advancement opportunities as reasons for stepping down en masse.
The decision reflects growing frustration among local officials over the rescheduled election timeline. President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos previously signed legislation delaying the BSKE, affecting numerous communities across the country.
The resignation leaves Malungon without an active SK council and raises questions about how the barangay will manage youth-focused programs and initiatives pending the conduct of new elections. Election officials have not yet announced when the delayed SK polls will take place in the province.
