Tengah will receive its first Family Service Centre by 2027, bringing integrated social and family support services closer to residents of the expanding HDB town in western Singapore. The centre will provide counselling, casework assistance, and community programmes to families in the area, reducing the need for residents to travel outside their estate for support services.
The announcement comes as Singapore continues to decentralise social services across its public housing estates. The establishment of a Family Service Centre in Tengah aligns with the Housing and Development Board's vision for comprehensive community infrastructure in new towns.
Meanwhile, a preventive health hub has opened in Ang Mo Kio, marking another step in Singapore's effort to bring primary healthcare and wellness programmes to residents' doorsteps. These hubs focus on health screening, disease prevention, and health education rather than acute medical treatment.
The two initiatives reflect a broader policy shift toward providing residents with accessible, integrated services within their residential areas. By reducing travel distances, authorities aim to improve service uptake and strengthen community support systems across Singapore's public housing estates.
