Terengganu to appoint Gerakan representative as state assemblyman
Terengganu's menteri besar has confirmed that the state constitution permits the appointment of assemblymen to improve representation of underrepresented groups. A Gerakan party member is set to fill one of these positions.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said the state constitution provides a legal mechanism for appointing assemblymen from demographic groups or genders currently lacking sufficient representation in the state assembly. The move aims to broaden the diversity of voices in the legislature. A representative from Gerakan, a component party of the ruling coalition, is expected to be appointed to one of these positions in the coming weeks. State officials said the appointment aligns with constitutional provisions that allow for such nominations when particular communities or genders remain underrepresented. The decision reflects broader efforts across Malaysian states to enhance inclusivity within their respective legislative bodies. Gerakan's appointment would mark another step in strengthening the coalition's presence across state governments in the region.
