The victim, a resident of Kuala Terengganu in Terengganu, was approached through social media by individuals claiming to operate a registered investment platform. The scammers convinced her that she could achieve substantial returns by investing in various schemes, gradually building trust before directing her to transfer funds through multiple bank transactions.

Over the course of the fraud, the woman transferred a total of RM87,975.04 to accounts provided by the scammers. She only realized she had been deceived when attempts to withdraw her supposed investment returns were unsuccessful and contact with the fraudsters ceased entirely.

The case highlights the growing sophistication of online investment fraud targeting Malaysian consumers, particularly older adults. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution when contacted unsolicited about investment opportunities online, emphasizing that legitimate financial services are regulated and identifiable through official regulatory bodies.

Police have begun investigating the matter and are working to trace the perpetrators and potentially recover the victim's funds. Individuals who believe they may have been targeted by similar schemes are encouraged to lodge reports with local police stations or contact the Cybercrime Investigation Division.
