Amritsar rural police have busted a terror conspiracy linked to cross-border militant operations, apprehending 28-year-old Navjot Singh Chima during the investigation. The arrest comes as part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in Punjab's border districts, which have witnessed periodic militant activity over the past decade.
Police recovered a substantial cache of weapons and materials from Chima's possession, including an AK-47 assault rifle, nine live ammunition rounds, two hand grenades, a mobile phone and a motorcycle. Investigators are examining the recovered materials to determine their intended use and identify other individuals involved in the suspected plot.
The case underscores persistent security challenges in border regions of Punjab, where law enforcement agencies maintain heightened vigilance against militant networks operating from across the international boundary. Police have launched further investigations to uncover the operational structure of the militant module and trace any connections to larger terror organizations.
Authorities have not disclosed additional details about the specific nature of the alleged plot or the timeline of the operation. The case is being pursued under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and other stringent statutes governing terrorism-related offences.
