Tesla to phase out Cybertruck production by mid-2027
Tesla has signalled plans to wind down Cybertruck manufacturing by the middle of 2027 as the electric pickup contends with sluggish demand and mounting regulatory challenges. The decision will allow the company to redirect production capacity toward its Cybercab autonomous vehicle programme.

The electric vehicle manufacturer is scaling back its commitment to the Cybertruck, the polarizing stainless-steel pickup that has faced a series of headwinds since its commercial launch. Weak sales figures, combined with multiple recall campaigns and regulatory obstacles in key markets, have prompted Tesla to reassess the model's long-term viability on its production lines.
By redirecting manufacturing capacity away from the Cybertruck, Tesla aims to accelerate development of its Cybercab robotaxi initiative, a vehicle the company has positioned as central to its autonomous driving strategy. The move signals a strategic pivot toward robotaxi technology, which Tesla views as offering stronger growth potential than its struggling pickup segment.
The Cybertruck's journey to market has proven notably challenging. Since deliveries commenced, the model has encountered quality concerns, design-related issues, and difficulties in gaining regulatory approval across multiple jurisdictions. These complications have constrained production volumes and dampened buyer enthusiasm for the vehicle.
The phased wind-down approach suggests Tesla will continue Cybertruck production at reduced levels through mid-2027 rather than implement an immediate halt. This gradual transition will allow the company to manage inventory, fulfill existing orders, and support current owners while reallocating resources to emerging vehicle platforms.
