Thackeray accuses Maharashtra CM of favoring BJP allies in land deals

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Aaditya Thackeray has leveled fresh accusations against Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, claiming the administration is systematically transferring Mumbai's open spaces to favored BJP members and political allies. Thackeray announced plans to mobilize party workers for demonstrations against what he described as improper land disposals benefiting the ruling coalition.

The allegations gained momentum following the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's general house approval on August 19 to convert a land reservation originally designated for Neville D'souza turf into a convention center. The decision has drawn criticism from opposition parties who view it as part of a larger pattern of land conversions favoring political interests.

Thackeray's protest call represents the latest in a series of confrontations between the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the current state administration over land use policies in Mumbai. The opposition party has consistently challenged what it characterizes as non-transparent land allocation decisions by municipal and state authorities.

The controversy underscores ongoing tensions in Maharashtra's political landscape regarding urban land governance and the distribution of public resources among stakeholders with varying political affiliations.
