Thai authorities relocate massive crocodile from flooded temple

Authorities in Thailand's Prachinburi province have successfully relocated a 400-kilogramme crocodile from a temple affected by flooding, marking a complex wildlife rescue operation in the region. The large reptile, which had been housed at the temple, was extracted as rising water levels posed risks to both the animal and its surroundings.

Operations personnel carefully captured and transported the crocodile to a temporary holding facility located in a neighbouring subdistrict approximately 20 kilometres from its original location. The move was conducted to ensure the safety of the animal during the flooding crisis and to prevent potential hazards to local residents.

Temple authorities and provincial wildlife officials coordinated the transfer, employing specialised equipment and trained personnel to manage the large reptile safely. The temporary facility has been equipped to provide appropriate care for the crocodile during its relocation period.

The incident underscores the challenges faced by communities across Southeast Asia when seasonal flooding threatens both populated areas and facilities housing wildlife. Officials did not specify a timeframe for the crocodile's eventual return to the temple or whether permanent changes to its housing arrangements would be implemented.
