Thai exports hit four-year high amid AI chip, China demand surge
Thailand's merchandise exports have recorded their strongest performance in four years, driven by surging demand for semiconductors and electronics from China and global AI development. The commerce ministry projects sustained export momentum through the remainder of the year as international electronics demand remains robust.

Thailand's export sector has experienced a significant acceleration, with shipments reaching their highest growth rate since 2020, bolstered primarily by electronics and semiconductor sales tied to artificial intelligence expansion and increased purchasing from China. The resurgence reflects a broader regional shift in technology supply chains as manufacturers seek to diversify production away from traditional hubs.
The commerce ministry has signalled confidence in the sustainability of this growth trajectory, citing persistent international demand for electronics components and semiconductors that underpin AI infrastructure globally. Thai manufacturers have positioned themselves to capitalise on this demand, with exports of integrated circuits and related electronic components forming a substantial portion of recent shipment increases.
Clarification on United States tariff policy has also provided Thai exporters with greater business certainty, the ministry noted, allowing companies to commit to production schedules and investment plans with improved visibility. This reduction in policy uncertainty has complemented favourable demand conditions to support export expansion.
The ministry's optimistic outlook for export performance suggests Thai businesses expect the electronics-driven growth cycle to persist through the final months of the year, though global economic conditions and US trade policies remain variables requiring continued monitoring by industry participants and policymakers alike.
