Thailand's armed forces have formally dismissed Cambodian assertions concerning the construction of border barriers and allegations of resident displacement along their mutual frontier, according to military officials. The denial comes amid longstanding disputes between the two nations over boundary demarcation and security measures in sensitive border zones.
Cambodia had raised concerns about barriers being installed in contested areas, claiming that construction activities had affected local populations near the border. The Cambodian government expressed particular concern over reports of residents being relocated from frontier communities.
Thai military representatives countered that any infrastructure development undertaken by Thailand in border regions falls within national sovereignty and is designed to enhance security and control along the frontier. Officials emphasized that all activities comply with relevant agreements and international protocols governing shared boundaries.
The dispute reflects broader challenges faced by both nations in managing their complex 799-kilometer shared border, which has been subject to periodic tensions and disagreements over precise boundary lines and frontier administration. Both countries maintain active military presences in border regions, citing security and sovereignty concerns.
Diplomatic channels remain open between Bangkok and Phnom Penh, though officials from both sides have indicated their commitment to resolving such matters through established bilateral mechanisms.
