Thailand nabs dozen South Koreans in call centre fraud crackdown

Thai police conducted raids targeting a sophisticated call centre operation allegedly run by South Korean nationals, resulting in the detention of a dozen suspects. The operation is believed to have defrauded victims across multiple countries through telephone-based schemes that typically involve impersonation and financial manipulation tactics.

The arrests add to Thailand's mounting efforts to dismantle international scam networks operating from within its borders. Since 2015, Thai authorities have apprehended around 40 individuals implicated in call centre fraud rings, reflecting the persistent challenge posed by organised cross-border criminal syndicates.

Call centre scams have emerged as a significant regional problem, with criminal networks exploiting vulnerable individuals by posing as bank officials, government representatives, or other authority figures to extract personal information and money. The schemes often target residents across Asia, with victims reporting substantial financial losses.
