Thailand's reservoirs at 82% capacity ahead of expected rainfall

Thailand's reservoir system is operating at a near-full 82% capacity ahead of anticipated heavy precipitation expected to sweep across the country between October 21 and 24, according to water management officials. The elevated water levels reflect accumulated rainfall from the current monsoon season and represent a significant portion of the nation's annual water storage capability.

With reservoirs running at high capacity, water authorities are preparing contingency measures to manage incoming rainfall and prevent potential overflow situations. Operators of major dam systems across the country have been placed on alert to adjust discharge rates based on real-time weather patterns and water inflow forecasts.

The forecasted rainfall comes at a critical juncture in Thailand's water management calendar, as the kingdom balances the need to maintain adequate water supplies throughout the dry season with the risk of flooding during periods of heavy precipitation. Meteorological agencies have advised residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant during the predicted four-day rainfall event.

Water resources officials urged the public to monitor official updates from the Meteorological Department and local authorities, particularly those residing in areas downstream from major reservoirs or in historically flood-vulnerable zones.
