Thailand says Bangkok floodwaters to recede within days

Bangkok faced significant flooding after intense rainfall deposited approximately 320mm of water over a two to three-day period in September, the government said. The amount represents almost the entire monthly rainfall average for the Thai capital during that season.

Local authorities expressed confidence that the floodwaters would be cleared within the estimated two to three-day timeframe, though drainage operations continued across the affected areas. The rapid accumulation of water overwhelmed drainage systems in parts of the city as residents and businesses dealt with the aftermath of the downpour.

The heavy rainfall highlighted Bangkok's vulnerability to sudden weather events, with intense precipitation capable of quickly saturating the capital's drainage infrastructure. Authorities did not immediately provide details on the extent of property damage or the number of residents affected by the flooding.
