Thailand to revamp market laws to expedite securities fraud investigations

Thailand is preparing a comprehensive overhaul of its market regulations to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and speed up investigations into securities fraud and related offences.

Under the proposed changes, officials from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) would gain the authority to work in tandem with police units during inquiries into serious market violations. The enhanced coordination is expected to eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks that have historically hampered the pace of fraud investigations.

The regulatory reforms reflect growing recognition among Thai authorities of the need to modernize the country's securities oversight framework. By enabling closer cooperation between financial regulators and law enforcement, the government aims to create a more responsive system capable of detecting and prosecuting market misconduct more effectively.

The initiative comes as regional financial regulators across Southeast Asia continue to strengthen market surveillance and investor protection measures. Thailand's move aligns with broader efforts to enhance transparency and accountability in capital markets throughout the region.
