Thailand urges exporters to reduce egg shipments following flood damage

Thai authorities have requested domestic egg producers to reduce export volumes in response to supply disruptions caused by recent flooding in key farming regions. The move comes as the country seeks to stabilise domestic egg supplies and manage price pressures stemming from weather-related damage to production facilities.

Singapore is Thailand's primary export destination for eggs, purchasing nearly 80 per cent of outbound shipments, according to trade data. The request from Thai officials reflects efforts to prioritise local market needs while the production sector recovers from flood-related losses.

Flood damage across Thailand's agricultural regions has impacted both inventory levels and operational capacity at egg-producing facilities. The voluntary reduction in exports is intended to ensure adequate supplies for domestic consumption as producers work to restore normal production capabilities.

The Thai government has not announced mandatory export restrictions, instead choosing to work with the industry on a collaborative basis. Officials have indicated that export volumes may normalise once immediate recovery efforts are completed and supply chains stabilise.
