Theni jail escapees to be dispersed across multiple state prisons

Following a jailbreak at Thekkampatti jail in Theni district, Tamil Nadu prison authorities have initiated a comprehensive security review that includes relocating all escapee prisoners to multiple high-security facilities across the state.

According to official statements, a total of 17 prisoners who were held in the secured ward of Thekkampatti jail will be transferred to central prisons in four different locations. The redistribution plan aims to minimize concentration of high-risk detainees at any single facility and strengthen custodial oversight.

Palayamkottai Central Prison will receive four prisoners, while Coimbatore Central Prison will also accommodate four detainees. Cuddalore Central Prison is set to receive three prisoners, and Salem Central Prison will take in six. The staggered placement of inmates is expected to reduce security vulnerabilities and improve monitoring.

The transfers are part of broader measures being undertaken by the state prison department to review security protocols at Thekkampatti jail and prevent similar incidents. Officials have not yet disclosed the details of the initial escape or the circumstances that led to the breach in the facility's secured ward.
