MANILA — Policy researchers at the Stratbase Institute warned Friday that fragmented government efforts are undermining the country's fight against child malnutrition, calling for a more cohesive strategy to improve nutrition outcomes across the Philippines.

The independent think tank identified significant obstacles in current anti-stunting initiatives, pointing to inconsistent nutrition data collection methods and duplicative feeding programs that fail to reach beneficiaries effectively. Officials said the lack of coordination among agencies responsible for maternal and child nutrition has created gaps in service delivery to the most vulnerable populations.

Stratbase Institute recommended that government agencies adopt standardized performance indicators and unified data collection protocols to improve program efficiency. The think tank also urged authorities to establish interoperable information systems that would allow different agencies to share data and coordinate services more effectively.

Child stunting remains a persistent public health challenge in the Philippines, affecting hundreds of thousands of children and limiting their physical and cognitive development. Experts say addressing the issue requires not only adequate resources but also better coordination among health, nutrition, and social welfare programs to ensure assistance reaches families that need it most.
