West Bengal police have arrested three persons in connection with a case of public shaming in Kolkata, according to a senior police officer's statement on Monday. The arrests include the woman's father and uncle, among others named in the case.
The incident involved the public parading of a man and his father on a city street. The underlying complaint relates to an alleged relationship involving a minor, which triggered the vigilante action.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding both the original allegation and the subsequent public shaming. The arrested individuals will be produced before the appropriate judicial authority for further proceedings.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about mob justice and extrajudicial action in urban areas, even as law enforcement agencies work to manage such incidents through formal legal channels.
