Maharashtra authorities have arrested three young men accused of placing QR code scanners linking to pornographic websites at a Ganesh pandal in Wasim district. The incident came to light during the popular Ganesh Chaturthi festival celebrations in the region.
According to police, the accused deliberately placed the QR codes in close proximity to the religious idol as part of a scheme to generate revenue. Each scan of the codes directed users to adult content websites, with the perpetrators earning commissions for driving traffic to these platforms.
The arrested individuals have reportedly confessed to the crime during questioning. Police said the youths were systematically targeting pandals and public spaces during the festival season to maximize scanner traffic and earnings.
The case has been registered under relevant sections of Indian law addressing obscenity and public decency violations. Authorities have urged organisers of religious gatherings to remain vigilant against such incidents and to report any suspicious activity to local police.
