Authorities in Washim, Maharashtra, have apprehended three individuals accused of placing obscene QR code stickers near a Ganesh idol in a public area. According to police, the suspects installed the scannable codes at night, with the intent to direct users to explicit video content.
When scanned, the QR codes opened links to a Telegram group containing pornographic material. Investigators determined that the three men executed the scheme as a means to generate income through the distribution of illicit content.
The accused admitted to their involvement during police questioning. They have been remanded in custody for further investigation by the court, which granted police the required detention period to interrogate the suspects and establish the full extent of their operation.
The incident has raised concerns about the misuse of public spaces and digital tools to distribute inappropriate material in residential areas. Police are examining whether the suspects were part of a larger network engaged in similar activities across the region.
