Three-decade land dispute in Gonda resolved through administrative action

GONDA: A protracted three-decade land dispute in Gonda district has been settled after administrative intervention by District Magistrate Durga Shakti Nagpal, officials said. The case involved illegal occupation of Nazul land—government property—that had been officially reserved for the district magistrate's office. The encroached land was vacated after the occupant, Dayanand Mishra, withdrew his legal challenge and voluntarily relinquished his claim. Mishra filed an affidavit in court stating his decision to cease pursuing the matter further. The resolution came following sustained administrative scrutiny and pressure applied by Nagpal's office, underscoring the effectiveness of resolute governance in resolving long-standing property disputes. Officials said the recovered land would now revert to its designated government use. The settlement marks a significant step in clearing decades-old encroachment issues in the district and demonstrates the potential for resolving such disputes through determined administrative action rather than prolonged litigation.
