Three killed in separate elephant attacks across Assam
Three people have died in separate conflicts with wild elephants in different parts of Assam, with incidents reported from Sonitpur and Karbi Anglong districts. The attacks underscore the ongoing human-wildlife conflict in the region's forested areas.

Two fatal incidents were reported from Sonitpur district in the Dhekiajuli area, located approximately 130 kilometres northeast of Guwahati. A third fatality occurred in Karbi Anglong district, in a village around 230 kilometres east of the Assam capital.
The deaths mark the latest in a series of human-elephant conflicts that regularly afflict communities living in proximity to the state's forest reserves and elephant corridors. Wildlife officials attribute such incidents to the expanding human settlements in elephant habitats and the animals' desperate search for food in cultivated areas.
Assam's wildlife department has intensified efforts to manage human-elephant conflicts through early warning systems, compensation schemes for victims' families, and awareness programmes in vulnerable villages. However, the recurring nature of such incidents highlights the challenge of coexisting with the state's significant elephant population in densely populated regions.
Authorities have urged villagers to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols during peak elephant movement seasons, particularly in areas bordering forests and national parks.
