The high-speed collision took place near Lotus Jetty, opposite Lala Lajpatrai College, when the BMW driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali. The out-of-control car subsequently struck a boundary wall, causing significant impact.
Three occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth passenger sustained injuries in the crash. Emergency services responded to the incident and initiated rescue operations, transporting the injured to a nearby medical facility for treatment.
The Coastal Road, a major thoroughfare connecting southern and central Mumbai, has witnessed several high-speed accidents over recent months. Authorities have attributed many such incidents to rash driving and overspeeding on the stretch. Police have launched an investigation into the exact circumstances leading to the loss of control, examining factors including vehicle speed, mechanical failure, and driver error.
The incident has reignited concerns among residents and safety advocates regarding the need for enhanced speed management measures and improved safety infrastructure on the busy corridor.
