Three MACC officers to mount defence in RM950,000 theft case

Two serving Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers and a former officer have been ordered to enter their defence in connection with an alleged RM950,000 robbery, following a High Court decision to overturn their acquittal at the lower court level.
The reversal came after the High Court found that the Sessions Court had erred in its judgment to discharge and acquit the three men. During proceedings, the court raised concerns regarding the handling of property allegedly seized during the investigation, questioning why such materials were transported to the officers' private homes rather than maintained through proper official channels.
The case centres on allegations that the trio unlawfully obtained the substantial sum, with the High Court's intervention suggesting that the lower court's initial acquittal may not have adequately addressed the evidence presented by prosecutors.
The three officers are now required to present their defence arguments before the High Court. The outcome of this case carries significant implications for public confidence in the anti-corruption agency and sets precedent regarding the handling of seized materials in investigations involving law enforcement personnel.
