Authorities in West Bengal's Darjeeling district have arrested three men in connection with the repeated rape of a teenage girl, officials said on Wednesday. The accused include a local shop owner and two brothers who allegedly committed the crimes over a period of time.
According to police, the perpetrators recorded videos of the sexual assaults and subsequently used the footage to blackmail the victim into silence. The girl's family has alleged that the accused also made threats to kill her, further coercing her into submission. The exploitation resulted in the teenager becoming pregnant, police confirmed.
The arrests came after the girl's family filed a complaint with law enforcement. Investigators have registered a case against all three accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The police have seized evidence including the recorded videos as part of their ongoing investigation.
The survivor has been provided counseling and medical support, and authorities have initiated measures to ensure her safety and well-being. The case highlights the vulnerability of minors to exploitation and the use of technology in perpetrating crimes against children in the region.
