Three minors brutally assaulted by villagers in Jharkhand, cases filed

Villagers in Lochnapur, Koderman district, detained three minors after discovering them in a compromising situation, according to police reports. The minors were subsequently paraded through the village, tied to an electricity pole, and subjected to a brutal beating before being forced to apologize publicly.

The incident drew widespread condemnation after video recordings of the assault circulated on social media. Police have since registered cases against approximately 100 to 150 unidentified villagers under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Information Technology Act, and various other criminal statutes related to vigilante violence and public humiliation.

In a separate development, the mother of the girl among the three minors filed an additional complaint against two boys, triggering a distinct case investigation. Authorities have not disclosed the current status of these ongoing inquiries or whether any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

The case highlights growing concerns over mob justice in rural India and the risks faced by minors when local communities take law enforcement into their own hands. Police officials have emphasized that such extrajudicial actions violate fundamental rights and legal procedures.
