Three Philippine cities brace for dangerously high heat index Friday

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) issued a heat alert Thursday for three areas expected to experience dangerous temperature conditions on Friday. Coron, Palawan is forecast to reach a heat index of 43 degrees Celsius, while both Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte and Butuan City in Agusan del Sur are similarly expected to face extreme heat levels.

A heat index measures how hot it actually feels when humidity is factored into the air temperature. The forecasted levels in these three locations qualify as dangerous, posing significant health risks to vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and those with chronic illnesses.

Authorities recommend that residents in affected areas limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, stay hydrated, and seek air-conditioned or cool environments when possible. Workers in outdoor industries are advised to increase rest periods and monitor themselves and colleagues for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Pagesa continues to monitor atmospheric conditions across the archipelago and will issue updated forecasts as weather patterns develop.
