Three Philippine regions swelter under extreme 44°C heat index

MANILA – Three regions across the Philippines experienced extreme heat conditions on Monday, November 2, with the heat index climbing to 44 degrees Celsius, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The most severe readings were documented in stations located in Bacnotan, La Union; Baler, Aurora; and San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. These measurements reflect the agency's five-day computed heat index assessments, which provide a more comprehensive view of thermal stress across the country.

Extreme heat index levels of this magnitude pose significant health risks to residents, particularly vulnerable populations including children, elderly persons, and those engaged in outdoor work. Health authorities typically advise increased water intake, limiting outdoor exposure during peak hours, and seeking air-conditioned spaces when possible during such conditions.

The temperature spike underscores the ongoing weather challenges facing the Philippines as the region transitions between seasons. Pagasa continues to monitor atmospheric conditions nationwide and issues regular weather advisories to keep the public informed of potential heat-related hazards.
