Three telecom and tech stocks hit lower circuits amid profit-taking

Hindustan Fibre Optic Cable Limited (HFCL), MTAR Technologies, and Sterlite Technologies hit 5% lower circuits during intraday trading on Tuesday, as investors booked profits following a remarkable bull run. The three stocks had emerged as star performers in the calendar year 2026, delivering multibagger returns to shareholders.

Sterlite Technologies led the gainers with a year-to-date appreciation of 664%, while MTAR Technologies advanced 171% and HFCL gained 151% through the same period. These stellar performances have substantially outpaced the BSE Sensex benchmark, which has declined 11.6% so far this year, highlighting the relative strength of these technology and telecom infrastructure plays.

The sharp pullback observed Tuesday appears to reflect profit-taking after the extended rally rather than a shift in fundamental sentiment around the sector. Lower circuits—regulatory halts triggered by sharp declines—suggest heavy selling pressure from investors capitalizing on the significant gains accumulated over recent months.

The divergence between these individual stocks and the broader market index underscores the current market dynamics, where select technology and infrastructure sectors have attracted considerable investor interest. Analysts will be watching for support levels and whether the selloff represents a temporary correction or the beginning of a sustained trend reversal.
