Three Thai Women Held at Colombo Airport Over Drug Smuggling Bid
Airport authorities have arrested three Thai nationals attempting to smuggle cannabis products valued at approximately Rs. 85 million through Bandaranaike International Airport. The women, aged between 31 and 38, were intercepted during an early morning operation.

Officers from the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau apprehended the three Thai women on 20 January while they were attempting to transport the contraband through the Katunayake facility. The seized consignment comprised both "Kush" and "Hashish," with the total estimated street value placed at Rs. 85 million.
The arrested individuals are employed by various companies, according to preliminary reports. All three remain in police custody as investigations into the smuggling operation continue.
The interception represents another significant drug seizure at Sri Lanka's primary international airport, where narcotics enforcement operations have been intensified in recent months. Authorities have not yet disclosed details regarding the intended destination of the consignment or the suspected supply networks involved.
The case has been forwarded to the relevant law enforcement agencies for further investigation and prosecution proceedings.
