Three Ugandan women detained in Pune for visa violations

Three Ugandan nationals were taken into custody in Marunji, a locality in Pune, on charges of remaining in India beyond the validity period of their visas, according to officials familiar with the matter.

The women were apprehended following discrepancies in their documentation. Authorities discovered that photocopies of original documents had been submitted instead of authentic papers. Additionally, their requests to extend their visa validity were not approved, prompting immigration officials to take action.

The Foreign Registration Office has since commenced the process of repatriating the three detainees to Uganda. The move comes as Indian authorities intensify efforts to enforce visa regulations and crack down on illegal overstaying by foreign nationals.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about document verification procedures and immigration compliance across the country. Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the duration of the women's overstay or their intended purpose for remaining in India.
