Thrissur to host vibrant tiger procession for Onam celebrations

Thrissur is set to witness a spectacular display of colour and creativity as more than 400 painted tigers take to the streets for the city's Onam celebrations on Saturday. The procession will converge at Swaraj Round, transforming the venue into a riot of vibrant hues as nine teams compete in showcasing their elaborate entries.

Each participating team will field a traditional Pulivandi—a procession featuring elaborately painted tigers—alongside intricately designed tableaux. The tableaux will blend mythological narratives with contemporary themes, reflecting both Kerala's cultural heritage and modern sensibilities.

The Pulivandi tradition, central to Thrissur's Onam festivities, has long been a hallmark of the state's cultural calendar. The event draws significant participation from cultural organisations and community groups across the region, making it one of the most anticipated celebrations in the district.

The Saturday procession is expected to attract large crowds as residents and visitors gather to witness the artistic displays and competitive spirit of the participating teams. The event underscores Thrissur's continued commitment to preserving and celebrating traditional art forms during the annual Onam festival.
