Thundershowers set to drench multiple provinces from afternoon

Residents across six provinces and two districts should prepare for unsettled weather from 1.00 p.m. today, according to the Department of Meteorology's latest advisory. Showers and thundershowers are expected to affect the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, and North-western provinces, along with the Southern province and Anuradhapura and Mannar districts.

The meteorological department has flagged the possibility of fairly heavy rainfall in several of these areas. Locations across the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western and Southern provinces may experience falls exceeding 75 millimetres, which could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas and water accumulation on roads.

Commuters are advised to exercise caution during the afternoon and early evening hours, particularly in affected provinces. Motorists should remain vigilant for reduced visibility and slippery road conditions. Residents in vulnerable areas are urged to monitor weather updates from the Department of Meteorology for any escalation in rainfall intensity or revised forecasts.
