Mario Voigt, Minister-President of Thuringia, has signalled strong interest in strengthening local-level cooperation between the German state and Vietnam, citing the country's impressive economic growth trajectory and progress in digital transformation.

The outreach reflects Thuringia's broader strategy to build substantive business and technical partnerships across Southeast Asia. Da Nang, Vietnam's major central coastal city, has emerged as a particular focus for potential collaboration, offering opportunities in trade, investment, and knowledge exchange.

The initiative represents a shift toward deeper subnational engagement between Germany and Vietnam, moving beyond traditional central government relations. By targeting regional hubs like Da Nang, both sides aim to unlock cooperation opportunities in emerging sectors aligned with Vietnam's development priorities.

These efforts come as Vietnam continues positioning itself as a key economic hub in Southeast Asia, attracting international investment and technical expertise. Germany's Thuringia, known for manufacturing and technology sectors, sees potential for mutually beneficial partnerships that could support Vietnam's ongoing digital economy expansion.

Official discussions on specific cooperation frameworks are expected to follow, with both parties signalling commitment to translating stated interests into concrete joint ventures and institutional arrangements.
