Frances Tiafoe battled through a lengthy contest to defeat 10th seed Lorenzo Musetti 7-6(2), 7-5 and advance to the semifinals of the Cincinnati Masters on Wednesday. The American required more than two hours to seal the victory, overcoming four match points before finally converting on his fifth opportunity to secure passage to the next round.
Tiafoe's performance demonstrated resilience against a determined Musetti, who pushed the American to the limit throughout their quarterfinal encounter. The Italian challenger forced a tiebreak in the opening set before succumbing in the breaker, but recovered to mount a stern challenge in the second set until Tiafoe's persistence ultimately prevailed.
With the victory, Tiafoe advanced to face Nakashima in the semifinals of the prestigious Masters 1000 event. The result marked another significant step for the American player in his ongoing campaign at one of the ATP Tour's most competitive tournaments.
