Tier-2 IT firms outpace larger peers in Q1FY27 revenue growth sprint
Second-rung information technology services companies have emerged as growth leaders in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, significantly outperforming their larger counterparts. The performance marks a notable shift in the competitive dynamics of India's IT services sector.

Mid-sized IT services firms demonstrated stronger revenue expansion than industry heavyweights during Q1FY27, according to findings from Motilal Oswal Financial Services Limited (MOFSL). Tier-2 companies registered sequential quarter-on-quarter growth of 1.8 per cent in constant currency terms, nearly five times the expansion rate achieved by Tier-1 players.
Tier-1 IT services companies, which collectively dominate the sector, managed only 0.4 per cent quarter-on-quarter growth during the same period. The modest performance by larger firms reflects the persistent softness in global technology spending and caution among multinational corporations regarding discretionary IT expenditure.
The divergence in growth trajectories suggests that second-rung IT services providers may be better positioned to capitalize on emerging opportunities in specific verticals or geographies. These firms often demonstrate greater agility in responding to client demands and may be benefiting from clients seeking to diversify their vendor portfolios away from over-reliance on industry titans.
The Q1FY27 results underscore the evolving competitive landscape in India's IT services industry as demand dynamics remain uneven across the global economy. Market observers will be watching closely to determine whether this momentum among Tier-2 firms can be sustained through the remainder of the fiscal year amid uncertain macroeconomic conditions.
