Tiger Woods will not automatically feature in the initial lineup for the Hero World Challenge, scheduled for December 3 to 6 in Albany, Bahamas, according to the field list released Monday. The tournament host's absence from the preliminary roster has raised questions about his participation in the year-end event.
However, Woods retains a viable pathway to compete in the gathering. Tournament organisers have reserved three exemption spots that could be used to add additional players to the field, potentially including the event's host.
The Hero World Challenge, an invitational event at Albany Golf Club, traditionally attracts elite players from around the world. The tournament serves as an important fixture on the professional golf calendar as the year concludes.
Woods has maintained close ties to the event through his hosting role and continues to compete selectively on the PGA Tour following his return from serious injuries sustained in a car accident in February 2021. His participation in upcoming tournaments remains subject to his physical condition and competitive schedule.
