Deputy Minority Leader Antonio Tinio of the ACT Teachers party-list has urged the government to provide complete transparency regarding budget amendments made during House deliberations on the proposed P7.2-trillion national budget for 2027.
Tinio's appeal came as the House Budget Amendments Review Subcommittee (BARSc) began its review of proposed changes on Thursday. According to reports, approximately P77.86 billion in amendments have been flagged for examination during the budget deliberation process.
The opposition lawmaker's demand reflects growing concerns about budget accountability and the need for public scrutiny of significant government spending decisions. The review process is expected to examine which programs and agencies received funding modifications and the rationale behind such changes.
The 2027 national budget represents one of the government's largest spending blueprints, making transparency in its allocation particularly significant for fiscal accountability and public trust. Lawmakers and stakeholders have been closely monitoring how funds are distributed across various departments and priority programs as the budget moves through the legislative process.
