Residents of two Tiong Bahru HDB blocks have given the green light for their flats to undergo upgrading works under the Housing Improvement Programme, or HIP, following fresh votes conducted in the estates. Block 34 achieved a 75 per cent approval rate, while Block 35 secured stronger backing with 87 per cent of residents voting in favour of the scheme. The re-polling exercise enabled residents to reconsider their positions on the upgrading initiative, which typically involves structural improvements and facility enhancements to ageing residential blocks. The successful re-votes clear the way for both blocks to proceed with their respective upgrading projects. The Housing Improvement Programme is a key component of Singapore's strategy to extend the lifespan of older public housing while maintaining quality living standards for residents. The strong endorsement from residents in both blocks reflects support for the refurbishment works that will be undertaken in the Tiong Bahru precinct.
