TMC demands President's rule as attacks on party workers escalate

The Trinamool Congress intensified pressure on the central government on Thursday, demanding an explanation for why President's rule has not been imposed in West Bengal amid what it characterises as a deteriorating law and order situation. TMC Rajya Sabha MP and spokesperson Derek O'Brien cited a recent incident in which party worker Gyananand Samanta was allegedly subjected to a brutal attack by unidentified assailants, claiming the assault occurred in the presence of police personnel.

O'Brien's allegations underscore growing tensions within the state as the TMC seeks to highlight what it views as systemic failures in maintaining public order. The party has previously raised concerns about violence directed at its functionaries, attributing such incidents to the actions of rival political groups.

The demand for President's rule represents a significant escalation in the TMC's public rhetoric, effectively challenging the competence of the current state administration to maintain law and order.
