Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee alleged that his Kalighat residence in Kolkata came under attack by BJP supporters early Saturday morning, triggering violent clashes between activists of the two parties. The three-term lawmaker claimed the assault represented a deliberate conspiracy against him and alleged his office and home had been under surveillance for two consecutive days prior to the incident.
According to Banerjee, the alleged attack occurred around 2 am when BJP supporters gathered outside his residence, reportedly raising slogans against him. The TMC MP stated that multiple supporters sustained serious injuries during the ensuing confrontation. He shared purported video footage of the incident on social media as evidence of the attack.
"After two days of continuous recce, this is how BJP hooligans attacked my house at 2 am today. If this is what can happen to an elected Member of Parliament, imagine the plight of the common man in West Bengal," Banerjee said in a statement accompanying the video.
The incident underscores escalating tensions between the Trinamool Congress and BJP in West Bengal ahead of political engagements in the state. Independent verification of the video footage and detailed accounts from the BJP could not be immediately obtained.
